Statement:

Lauren Karjala brings a vivid, contemporary palette and expressionist immediacy to narrative figural painting and portraiture. Her current body of work explores themes of connection, intimacy, dreams, and symbolism. Her paintings generally serve as images of specific memories - honoring fleeting moments in time that are easily overlooked in the fabric of everyday life. Lauren believes that in recalling a memory via creating a painting, it can unite the physical world with the dream space, and unconscious influences will reveal themselves in the image.
